What is 5G?

5G is the next generation to 4G cellular technology. 5G is designed to improve flexibility of wireless services, increase speed, and reduce latency. [1]

 

How does 5G work?

5G standard is comprised of low, mid and high band spectrum. While 5G will operate on the same mobile networking principles as 4G, it will provide enhancements, such as: faster speed, better broadband services, and will expand new services such as mission-critical communications. [2]

 

Health Questions?

Scientific studies have indicated that there is no connection between certain health problems and exposure to radiofrequency via cell phones. The Federal Drug Administration believes that scientific evidence does not show an association between exposure to radiofrequency from cell phones and adverse health outcomes.[3] 

 

What are the Federal Communications Commission’s regulations on 5G?

The Federal Communications has adopted new rules that reduces federal regulatory impediments for the installation of 5G infrastructure, with minimal oversight by cities. [4]

The City of Norwalk has developed guidelines for the installation of small cell infrastructure.


What is taking place today in Norwalk?

Currently, five (5) small cell infrastructure have been installed in the public right of way on existing utility poles, some on major highways and some in residential neighborhoods.
