New Service Alert! NTS Metrolink Parking Shuttle

Beginning Monday, May 6, 2019 - The Metrolink Parking Shuttle is a new service that Norwalk Transit System will be operating between the Norwalk/Santa Fe Springs Metrolink Station and the Civic Center Parking Structure located adjacent to City Hall on Avenida Manuel Salinas. 

Due to limited parking at the Metrolink Station, NTS will provide commuters with additional parking at the Civic Center structure (3rd floor) and will be able to utilize the direct shuttle to connect with arriving/departing trains.

17th Annual Stuff-A-Bus - 2018

Join Norwalk Transit System during the 2018 holiday season in helping collect toys for our community's children in need.  The Stuff A Bus is available to visit local schools and businesses that would like to try to "stuff" the bus full of toys.  Also, toys can be dropped off at the Transportation Facility/Customer Service Department at:

All toys collected are donated to the City of Norwalk Social Services Program for donation to the Annual Angel Tree Project, and other distribution events throughout the holiday season.



Thanksgiving Day - No Service

As a reminder, there will be NO fixed-route service offered on Thanksgiving Day - Thursday, 11/22/18.  NTS will return to regular operating schedule on Friday, 11/23/18.

New Route 1 & Route 4 Schedules Available Now

Norwalk Transit System (NTS) has updated its Route 1 & 4 Schedules, effective Sunday, September 9, 2018.  The new schedules are now available on buses, on this website by clicking HERE and at our Customer Service Lobby.  Please make sure to use the new schedule times.

Effective Sunday, July 15, 2018 - use your TAP card for inter-agency transfers.

In an effort to save paper and make inter-agency transfers easier, Norwalk Transit and other TAP participating transit agencies will begin the Transfer on 2nd Boarding Policy.

All inter-agency tranfers will now exclusively be made using TAP cards with Stored Value.  Customers must use a TAP card when boarding.  The fare for transfer will be calculated and deducted automatically from the TAP card upon second boarding made within 2.5 hours of the first boarding.  No more paper transfers will be given out to customers.  

Benefits to the Transfer on 2nd Boarding:

  • Everything will be on one card

  • No need to carry exact change

  • Transfer fare will be calculated and deducted automatically

  • No need to worry about losing a paper ticket/transfer

  • Environmentally friendly

  • Time between transfers has been extended from 2 hours to 2.5 hours

  • Cost remains the same

Stuff-A-Bus 2017

The Norwalk Transit System Stuff-A-Bus is in now collecting toys and making appearances at local schools, organizations and events in Norwalk and the surrounding areas.  So far, the Stuff-A-Bus has collected almost 900 toys for distribution to children in Norwalk!

The 12th annual National Dump the Pump Day on June 15 is a day to highlight the many benefits of using public transportation.

From urban to suburban to rural communities, public transportation is a vital resource to Americans, and a cornerstone of our nation’s economy and local economies. In fact, public transportation helps to make a community economically competitive.  Additionally, public transportation provides economic opportunities since 87 percent of public transit trips impact the economy.

Many people park their cars and take public transportation instead.  According to APTA’s June Transit Saving Report, a two-person household can save, on the average, $9,797 a year by downsizing to one car.

Public transportation use reduces our nation’s dependence on foreign oil by 4.2 billion gallons of gasoline a year and it also saves 37 million metric tons of carbon emissions annually. Last, but not least, public transportation has a proven track record of reducing congestion. The latest research shows that in 2011, U.S. public transportation use saved 856 million hours in travel time, 450 million gallons of fuel, and $21 billion in congestion costs in 498 urban areas.

Route 1 & 3 - Temporary Detour Schedules and Map

Service Advisory: Beginning March 6, 2017, street closures went into effect at Orr & Day Road and Florence Avenue, affecting both southbound Routes 1 & 3.  This closure was due to the I-5 Corridor/Florence Avenue construction project and will be in effect for the next 9-12 months.  Please see the detour map and temporary bus stop and schedule information here.

Short-term, inconsistent funding slows progress and costs America’s taxpayers more in the long run.

Communities around the country came together to take part in Stand Up 4 Transportation Day.

Norwalk's Compressed Natural Gas Fueling Station is officially operating! The City of Norwalk's Transportation Department introduced the public and officials to their state of the art facility during a recent ribbon cutting ceremony.

Currently there are 14 CNG buses operating in Norwalk. Using this alternative fuel saves the city approximately $500,000 in the course of a year. Eventually the entire fleet of vehicles will be changed over to CNG. This helps cut costs and the environment.
